Lombardia

There are roads that simply take you somewhere, and roads that become the reason you came. This seven-day journey is built around the latter — a week of legendary mountain roads and the timeless landscapes of Lombardia.

Journey Details

This is a journey for those who want to experience the Italian Alps rather than simply tick off a list of famous climbs. Over six stages, the road takes us from the lakes and foothills of Lombardia deep into the high mountains, linking legendary passes with quieter roads and lesser-known climbs, before returning through the landscapes that have shaped some of cycling’s greatest stories. Gavia, Stelvio, Bernina, Croce Domini and the Muro di Sormano are the names that draw you in — but it is the roads between them, the mountain villages, long descents, roadside lunches and shared effort that become the memories you take home.

Add the beauty of Lago d’Iseo and Lago di Como, a rest day in Bormio and a finale on the roads of Il Lombardia, and the result is more than a week of hard riding: it is a chance to immerse yourself in the landscape, culture and mythology of Italian cycling, one unforgettable road at a time.

LOMBARDIA

Made of Legend

Some roads are inseparable from the history of cycling and Lombardia is home to many of them — legendary passes, brutal ramps and quiet mountain roads where generations of riders have chased glory, endured suffering and written their names into the story of the sport. The names alone are enough to stir something: Gavia, Stelvio, Bernina, Madonna del Ghisallo, Muro di Sormano.

Now it’s our turn to ride them, not as spectators of cycling history, but as riders on the same roads, climbing towards the same summits and discovering what it feels like when a name on a map becomes a road beneath your wheels.

LOMBARDIA

Local Flavours

Our roadside feed stops will draw on the mountain flavours of Lombardia and the valleys we ride through — from the distinctive Bagòss cheese of Bagolino and hearty polenta to Valtellina bresaola, alpine cheeses, rustic rye bread, local honey and fresh fruit.

Expect freshly sourced cakes, traditional pastries and strong Italian coffee along the way, with each stop thoughtfully chosen to reflect the character of the villages and mountains we pass through. Simple, generous food where the road gives us a reason to pause.

One of the most rewarding cycling experiences I ever had. The scenery, the support, the route - simply mesmerising.

ROUTE DETAILS

Our journey through the Italian Alps begins in Bergamo, heading north along Lago d’Iseo before turning into the mountains via Passo Zeno and Passo Maniva towards the quiet mountain town of Bagolino. From here, the road rises to Passo Croce Domini before continuing through the high valleys, over the cinematic Passo Vivione and down towards Edolo and Ponte di Legno, where the legendary Passo Gavia — the old lady — awaits.

Bormio becomes our mountain base for a well-deserved rest day before the journey continues over Bernina and Stelvio, then back towards San Pellegrino Terme via Presolana and Zambla.

Passo San Marco opens the penultimate stage as we cross towards Lake Como and an evening in Lecco. Our final day follows the roads of the Giro di Lombardia, climbing towards Bellagio, over Madonna del Ghisallo and the formidable Muro di Sormano, before the final ascent of the journey — Passo Valcava — and the long descent back to Bergamo.
